Serving Individuals

At North Star Families, located in the Los Angeles area, we offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for both children and adults. EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based approach to trauma therapy that helps people process and heal from distressing experiences, including trauma, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.

Our EMDR therapists are specially trained to create a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore difficult memories and reduce emotional intensity without needing to talk through every detail. We use EMDR as part of a reflective, trauma-informed approach to help individuals build resilience, reduce symptoms, and reconnect with their strengths.

How EMDR Therapy Can Help

EMDR therapy supports emotional healing by helping the brain reprocess painful memories and experiences that may be “stuck.” It is especially effective for trauma and can also be helpful for anxiety, grief, and more.

EMDR therapy may be helpful for:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Grief and loss
  • Childhood neglect or abuse
  • Medical trauma
  • Bullying or school-related stress
  • Attachment disruptions
  • Performance anxiety or phobias

EMDR is developmentally adaptable, making it effective for both adults and children. For younger clients, our therapists use age-appropriate techniques and creative tools to help them process their experiences in a gentle and supportive way.

“Curiosity and wonder are the foundation of secure relationships, with your child, with your partner, and with your colleagues.”

What to Expect

Your EMDR therapist will begin with a thorough assessment to understand your experiences, goals, and readiness for EMDR. This phase includes building coping strategies and establishing emotional safety.

EMDR therapy uses a structured eight-phase protocol that incorporates bilateral stimulation (often eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones) to help the brain reprocess stuck memories. Many people experience relief and symptom reduction after just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support.

We adjust our approach based on each client’s needs, whether working with a child who’s been through a difficult event or an adult seeking to overcome the long-term effects of trauma.

We have locations in Beverly Hills, Pasadena, West LA, Silverlake and Studio City for you to visit with our therapists.
